Four lifelong friends — Mary Jo, Ann-Margaret, Patty, and Lisa — decided there was only one proper way to celebrate a milestone birthday: by doing something unforgettable together. Having worked side-by-side decades ago at a hospital near New Castle, Pennsylvania, the women had remained close through marriages, careers, children, and the countless turns life inevitably takes over seventy years.
A Birthday Worth Celebrating
For Patty’s 70th birthday, the group wanted more than a dinner reservation or a quiet weekend away. They wanted an experience. After some discussion, they chose Intrepid Firearms Academy to create a private women’s event that blended professional instruction, confidence-building, laughter, and just enough challenge to make the day memorable.
What followed was one of the hottest training days of the spring. Under a relentless Pennsylvania sun and temperatures pushing past 90°F in only May, the ladies stepped onto the range for the very first time to learn how to safely handle and fire a pistol.First Shots, Big Smiles

Despite the heat, the group pushed through with determination, humor, and remarkable toughness. Like many first-time shooters, there were moments of nervousness early in the day — but those moments quickly gave way to smiles, growing confidence, and a surprising amount of excitement each time steel rang downrange.
Most importantly, Patty walked away from the experience with exactly what her friends had hoped for: a huge smile on her face and memories that will likely be talked about for years to come.
